Carrier-locked phones
A phone locked to your home carrier may refuse to activate a second, unrelated eSIM profile — even though the hardware supports eSIM. Here's how to check before you buy:
iPhone (iOS 14+): Settings → General → About → look for "Carrier Lock." It should say "No SIM restrictions" if your phone is unlocked.
Android: Settings → Network & Internet (or Connections) → Mobile network → Network operators (or similar — menu names vary by brand) → turn off automatic selection and search manually. If more than just your home carrier shows up, your phone is unlocked. Not seeing anything like this? Inserting a SIM card from a different carrier is the fallback test — if it connects without asking for an unlock code, your phone is unlocked.
